Re: wysiwyg editor for the ipad

There is currently no support for a wysiwyg editor in JAM.  It is, however, our number two user request:
http://jadminmobile.uservoice.com/forum … ?ref=title

We would love to provide this, but I think it's going to take some investigation.  If you know of any other iPhone/iPad apps that do something similar, let me know.  That would probably help speed things along.

Thanks,
Will

Re: wysiwyg editor for the ipad

I could have a switch to strip out all the HTML code, but then when your article gets posted to the site, it would have no styling.

I'm hoping I can come up with a better solution than that.  I would love to have a full WYSIWYG editor, but I just don't know how realistic that is.

Thanks for your help,
Will

Re: wysiwyg editor for the ipad

Having a basic WYSIWYG would make the app viable for allot of us,  I brought the JAM app but i don't use it as its easier to log in by website and update my site.

Starting with something with just the basic functionality would do eg: bold, italic, underline, align left, right, centre, hyper link and email link. With out that minimal functionality JAM is just no use to users who are not fluent in html and this has to mean you are loosing a good two thirds of the market. As soon as i can find a iphone /ipad app that can do this I will be using it and if its not JAM then i imagine allot of your users will migrate too. I want to support JAM and i code html but this missing feature just creates to much friction to make me use JAM in any serious capacity .

Re: wysiwyg editor for the ipad

If I had realised there was no editor I would never have purchased this app. Feel conned that the screen shots in the app store do not accurately show lack of joomla functionality.

If I could write HTML I would need a content manager like joomla.

Re: wysiwyg editor for the ipad

@Guest - Thanks for the feedback.  I'm hoping to get a chance to look into this very soon.  It sounds like it's becoming the biggest request and I totally agree it is necessary.
@forestknights - The screenshots actually show HTML in the content text area.  I'm not sure how I can be more clear.  I'm sorry if you feel conned.  If you are that unhappy with your purchase, I can only suggest contacting Apple to see if you can get a refund.  I'm not able to provide refunds since they handle the orders.

Thanks,
Will

Re: wysiwyg editor for the ipad

Actually to someone with no knowledge to HTML your screen shots are not clear.  Joomla is generally a content management tool for people that do not have a working knowledge of  HTML to be clearer I would show a screen shot for conent editing with lots of HTML script on it or mention no editor specifically.  I accept you offer a free version of the software but looking at your website table what I need is the full version so I bought it without looking at the lite version first.

I hope you are able to add a proper editor  to Jam as it would then be a seriously useful tool for me to run my website whislt I am working in remote locations.

Any news on when you plan to role out a wysiwyg editor?

Have you started on this project?

Re: wysiwyg editor for the ipad

Unfortunately, I have not started, yet.

If the Apple iOS SDK has features to make this easier to do (I've had reports from other users that it may), then this could actually happen quickly once I get a chance to investigate it.  Unfortunately, life is currently getting in the way of work  I will do my best to at least investigate what features the SDK has.  If I can find something to make this quick, I would love to get it added.

Thanks for your patience.  Stay tuned,
Will

Re: wysiwyg editor for the ipad

Can you let us know if you have started on the wysiwyg editor ?  JAM  is useless for me without it.

I paid for a full version that I cannot use.

Re: wysiwyg editor for the ipad

I have only done some initial investigation and it does not look like Apple provides a rich text editor control in the SDK, yet.  If that's the case, I will need to build one (which will be very difficult and take a long time) or come up with an easier/quicker solution (BBCode mode, etc).  Please let me know if you have a solution in mind.  Even if you let me know which formatting is most important to you, that will help.

Can you tell me if you use an iPhone or iPad?  I think it will be easier to make something with iPad because we have more room to work with.  I wouldn't want to make something that is iPad only, though, if you are wanting this for the iPhone.

Thanks for your help, feedback, and most of all patience,
Will

Re: wysiwyg editor for the ipad

Thanks for the response.

I am only looking to create simple content text and some pictures to my site that does not require using HTML.

I really don't have the time to learn it.

I use an iPhone and a iPad so would be happy to use either platform.

A decent wysiwyg editor for Jam would definitely increase it's usefulness to the majority of joomla users that do not have a sound grasp of HTML.

I would offer no wysiwyg editor wih the lite version and a full editor with the paid for version.  This would increase the likelihood of people paying for the full version and thus paying for the effort in creating the editor from the ground up.

Currently Jam offers me nothing that I cannot do using the web browser pre installed in my iPhone and iPad.
